Anne Robinson is the new host of Countdown, but it’s certainly not her first rodeo.
The smart presenter, 76, graced the countdown panel in the ’80s and in the fabulous flashback clip, fans would hardly recognize her.
Anne sported a very retro hairstyle and the look was also preoperative. Anne has never hesitated to admit her love of a bit of “tweaking”.
The clip, shot in 1987, also featured the late Richard Whiteley as the host.
In addition to a huge red bouffant, Anne also wore a sparkly sweater with shoulder pads, of course.
Seeing the clip, Anne said, âYeah, it’s not my first appearance. If you’re trying to figure it out, it was 1987 and the clue was my hairstyle.
“Bay City Rollers, very Bay City Rollers.”
The legend of the weak link then joked that Rachel Riley, who now takes care of the numbers, was only about a year old at the time of filming.
Anne definitely had a sense of humor about her advanced age and the fact that she had done work in the past.
Before joining the iconic show as host, the mother-of-one said, âThe show is almost as old as I am and just as historic.
“I’m especially thrilled to be working alongside the other two great women on the show.”

Anne, the very first host in history, spoke about math pro Rachel, 35, and lexicographer Susie Dent, 56.
She joked, âWhat’s worrying, Susie and Rachel are not only very smart but younger, prettier and slimmer than me.
“Unfortunately, there is no time for another facelift, so I’ll have to settle for the old one.”
She made her debut as a host on Monday and so far so good.
Fans have flocked to Twitter to donate their dime.
One wrote: âI’m so relieved that Anne Robinson winked at the end of #Countdown!
A second agreed: âAnne put that legendary nod at the end there. Bravo Anne a great first show see you tomorrow #Countdown! “
And of course, she signed with her signature “goodbye”.
